St. Louis Gateway
Arch National Park
We spent the night outside of St. Louis. The next morning we drove into the Gateway Arch National Park in downtown St. Louis. We did not know all the different things it had to offer
We rode up to the top of the arch in a cable car. What a great view. We also saw a movie about Lewis and Clark and than check out their wonderful museum about settling the west.
We are now heading to Memphis for a couple of days.

The World’s only Corn Palace
We are now heading home and spent the night in Mitchell, SD. The next morning we saw a sign saying Corn Palace so of course we had to check it out.
The Mitchell Corn Palace was built in 1892. Early settlers displayed their agricultural bounty on the building’s exterior. Each fall a festival is planned to celebrate agriculture and a way of life.
Each year a new decorating theme is chosen and the outside of the Corn Place is stripped and redecorated with new corn and grains. Over the summer, 3,000 bushels of rye, oat heads and sour dock are tied in bundles and attached. When the crop of corn is ready 275 thousand ears of corn are sawed in half lengthwise and nailed to the building following patterns created by local artists.
The Corn Palace is known around the world as a folk art wonder on the prairie of South Dakota.

South Dakota
After a great time in Glacier we headed south and east to South Dakota.
We went thru Bozeman, MT were we stated 10 days before. We finally ended up in Deadwood, a great old west town. Guess what the Sturgis bike week was in full swing. Sturgis is 15 miles from Deadwood. We were lucky to find a room as there were 10’s of thousands of bikers every were. You wouldn’t believe all the people. Great bikes of every size-color-and shape.
We took a tour of Deadwood and than headed to Sturgis to see what was going on. Had a great time.
Next day we headed to Mt Rushmore to see the presidents. We took a self audio tour which helped us understand how it all came about.
That afternoon we went to Custer State Park. Another wonderful park in the west. It was about a 3 hour drive up and down and around the mountains. Just beautiful.
